Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of adding rice husk ash in the paving block mixture to
increase the compressive strength of the concrete. This research was conducted at the Civil Engineering
Laboratory, Campus C, Bina Darma University, Palembang. The object used in this study is the effect of
adding rice husk ash as a cement substitution to the compressive strength of concrete with a percentage of
5%, 10%, 15% and 20%. The results of research and analysis for the addition of rice husk ash (ASP) as a
substitute for cement in concrete will make the strength of the concrete decrease or decrease and become
lighter because the amount of cement used is reduced and water use is increased due to the addition of
ASP. The addition of ASP 5%, 10%, 15% and 20% to the concrete mixture can reduce the compressive
strength of the concrete. The value of the compressive strength of concrete in the substitution of ASP in
cement was obtained at the percentages of 5%, 10%, 15% and 20%. The value at the percentage of 5% at
the age of 28 days has approached the value in normal concrete with a value of 15.3 Mpa. The addition of
ASP to the concrete mix can reduce the use of cement and will add economic value to the concrete.
