Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of using clay aggregate as a substitute for coarse aggregate on the
compressive strength of concrete. This research was conducted at the Civil Engineering Laboratory,
Campus C, Bina Darma University. The object used in this study is the effect of using clay aggregate as a
substitute for coarse aggregate on the compressive strength of concrete with percentages ranging from
25%, 50%, and 75%. The results of research and analysis for the addition of ATL as a substitute for coarse
aggregate in concrete will reduce the strength of the concrete and become lighter because the amount of
aggregate used is reduced and the use of water is increased. The addition of clay aggregate (ATL) 25%,
50% and 75% in the concrete mixture can reduce the value of the compressive strength of concrete. The
value of the compressive strength of concrete in the substitution of ATL on coarse aggregate was obtained
from normal concrete (BN), and ATL of 25%, 50% and 75%. The value of BN at the age of 28 days is close
to the value of normal concrete with a value of 17.71 Mpa. The addition of ATL to the concrete mix can
reduce the use of coarse aggregate in the concrete mix
